Chef Jeff Margaretten is a self-taught lover of the art of sushi. In 2001, I was invited to a “make your own sushi” party, brought some fish, and began the quest to make the perfect roll… Whenever there was party to be thrown, I hung out in the kitchen, drank good sake' and rolled fresh fish until we could eat no more. Friends began to rave about the quality and flavors I had offered them. I was humbled and thankful.
I am an architect and a musician, who was fortunate to move to Destin, and then the beautiful beaches of 30A in South Walton, in 1999. Raised in Miami and educated in New Orleans, I travelled the country as an Auto Dealership Architect for many years. But the calling to stay home, coach Little League and be a part of the carpool was just too great .
A good friend of mine was planning an open house a few years back, and, as a veteran of my house parties, asked me to provide an “all you can eat sushi buffet” for the event, to which I replied, “You mean, Get Paid?” Needless to say, I accepted… and embarked on a new career path with a knife and a rice cooker.
After many successful private parties, I began a successful 2 ½ year stint as a Sushi Chef at Crush in Seaside, FL. In the end however, it was always the personal service of a private party at someone’s home or business that was my true love….that, and of course, my beautiful soulmate Lisa and utterly fantastic twin teenage boys Blane and Tyler.
I look forward to rolling for you soon. Dōmo arigatō.
